Vector logo. Vectorizing elements can be difficult sometimes. Yet, it’s an important step to practice when designing using any design software. Vector art is a growing art field that uses the same technique to create full illustrations. You can use it for creating simple elements, to more complicated scene illustrations.
Vector art and design is flat. Details added are simpler than digital painting. In digital painting, there are hundreds layers of colors, textures, and brushwork. But in vector art, you don’t have as much heavy painting work as digital and CG painting.
Vector Logo
Using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
Vectorizing logos is a must step. Especially for logos, they need to be designed and delivered in the best quality possible. So vectorizing it is what a designer should choose. It can be traced over an existing drawing of the logo. Or can be designed purely using the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator for example.
How? By using shapes and the pen tool. With experience, you don’t always have to sketch, draw the logo, scan, and trace over the drawing. Sometimes you design using tools and software immediately with the idea in mind. It depends which way resonates with you more. Personally, I prefer doing an initial sketch before designing the logo. Yet, as designers and illustrators you can always find your way and style.
Vector Motifs
Vector motifs is another category. And it’s popular in surface pattern design. Digital motifs are widely used to create repeated and seamless digital patterns. Especially when using Adobe Illustrator, vectorizing motifs and elements allow designers to have a high quality finally design. However, remember that when using Adobe Illustrator, the quality is excellent for designing. So, you don’t have to create big shapes and elements. Good sized elements will do.
Vector Lettering
Vector letters. Have you tried tracing or drawing letters in vector? The same concept repeats itself here. Even letters can be traced and vectorizing to create wonderful prints and digital posters. In this way, you can trace over letters digitally to create vector designs from them. In addition to that, you can create fonts out of vector letters too.
Vector Art
Vector art can range between elements, small and complicated more detailed illustration scenes. There are artists and designers who focus only on vector art as their specialization. It’s a field full of creativity and color usage. Try it with simple illustrations and elements first. Even if you don’t like it at first, practice few times before deciding for yourself whether you want to pursue it further or not.
It’s absolutely fun to try different art and design fields to keep creativity flowing.
